AFM Kraków University’s Faculty of Law, Administration and International Relations (Poland) together with the IBEROJUR – Instituto Iberoamericano de Estudos Jurídicos seated in Porto (Portugal) invites you to take part in the International scientific Conference “Artificial Intelligence and Responsibility” (1th CONFIAR). The Conference will be held in person and remotely on 8-9 December at AFM Kraków University, Kraków, in Poland.

The conference will address the extremely important and recently topical issue of legal liability for the actions of artificial intelligence (AI). This issue, although increasingly often raised in individual presentations by speakers at Polish and foreign conferences, is almost never the main subject of conference deliberations, or at most one of the many threads taken up. As a result, this prevents a comprehensive, wide-ranging discussion of the multitude of complications that may arise in this connection.

Recognizing the aforementioned gap, it was decided to organize this scientific endeavor. Additional inspiration came from legislative efforts to regulate the mentioned issue within the framework of European Union legislation. We are referring in particular to the so-called AI Act, the Proposal for a Directive of the European Parliament and of the Council on the Adaptation of Non-Contractual Civil Liability Legislation to Artificial Intelligence (AI Liability Directive) and the preceding European Parliament Resolution of October 20, 2020 with Recommendations to the Commission on the Civil Liability Regime for Artificial Intelligence (2020/2014(INL))

The organizers anticipate that there will be particular interest in the interplay between the so-called AI Act, the Artificial Intelligence Liability Directive and the Defective Product Liability Directive.

The main goal of this conference is to enable a broad, cross-state debate on the future regulation of AI in terms of its liability. The observations and conclusions made, especially those included within the framework of the post-conference monograph, will be able to inspire possible amendments to the planned directive, thus helping it to take its optimal shape.

For this reason, the organizers have planned the aforementioned conference as an international event, allowing speeches in English, Spanish and Portuguese. IBEROJUR – Instituto Iberoamericano de Estudos Jurídicos, based in Porto (Portugal) – has been successfully recruited as a co-organizer for the said project.

The subject matter of the conference is extremely topical, and the publication containing the papers delivered within the framework of the conference will undoubtedly have a pioneering character and will be a kind of signpost for further findings of both domestic and European doctrine and, most likely, legislation. According to the organizers’ assumptions, the resulting monograph of the conference will be published in a prestigious Spanish or Portuguese legal publishing house. Articles in English will be published in a Journal with a Polish ISSN.

The Ith CONFIAR accepts proposals that connect Law, Artificial Intelligence and Responsability to the following subjects:

A Faculdade de Direito, Administração e Relações Internacionais da Universidade AFM de Cracóvia (Polónia) e o IBEROJUR – Instituto Iberoamericano de Estudos Jurídicos – com sede na Cidade do Porto (Portugal) convidam a comunidade académica internacional a participar do Congresso Internacional ““Artificial Intelligence and Responsibility” (1th CONFIAR). O Congresso será realizado no formato presencial e on-line nos dias 08 e 09 de dezembro de 2023 na AFM Krakow University, Cracóvia, Polónia.

O I CONFIAR quer assumir o desafio complexo, mas ao mesmo tempo necessário, de preencher a lacuna na análise dos aspectos jurídicos emergentes do desenvolvimento da inteligência artificial no contexto do uso dos sistemas de Inteligência Artificial (IA). Deve-se notar que esta questão está se tornando cada vez mais importante tanto no âmbito teórico quanto na prática. Em razão disso, o evento permite uma ampla discussão em torno da infinidade de problemáticas que surgem no âmbito das novas tecnologias.

A Andrzej Frycz Modrzewski Cracow University em Cracóvia, bem como o BEROJUR – Instituto Iberoamericano de Estudos Jurídicos desejam criar um espaço de troca de opiniões para representantes das ciências jurídicas de várias instituições científicas. A cooperação visa fortalecer a colaboração entre pesquisadores e advogados da Polônia e do exterior, permitindo-lhes desenvolver projetos colaborativos.

Os organizadores esperam a presença de oradores de vários países, nomeadamente de Portugal, Espanha, Itália, Estados Unidos da América, Turquia, Austrália, República Checa, Roménia, México, Brasil e Canadá. Académicos de muitas instituições de pesquisa respeitadas de toda a Polónia também devem participar da conferência.

Pensando nisso, os organizadores planejaram o congresso como um evento internacional, permitindo apresentações em inglês, português e espanhol.

Esperamos que o participante presente na conferência tenha uma grande oportunidade para trocar pontos de vista, fazer novos contatos e criar uma plataforma de cooperação.

O tema do congresso é extremamente atual, e a publicação dos trabalhos apresentados terá, sem dúvida, um caráter pioneiro, sendo uma indicação para novos desenvolvimentos da doutrina polaca e europeia, e muito provavelmente também da legislação. De acordo com os objetivos dos organizadores, o livro resultante do congresso será publicado por uma edição jurídica portuguesa.

ÁREAS TEMÁTICAS: o I CONFIAR aceita propostas de trabalhos de caráter científico que conectem o direito, IA e Responsabilidade aos seguintes assuntos:

 A organização publicará os artigos aprovados e apresentados no I LEGALMED em e-book com ISBN Europeu:

Todos os capítulos dos livros serão registrados com o número DOI da CROSSREF, o qual possibilita o permanente registro digital do trabalho na rede mundial de computadores e nas bases de dados de repositório académico.
